But it's not just smaller kids who parents want to track. A teenager out on the town at night may well want to be picked up at the end of the night. You can set a temporary boundary around the venue and, when they leave you'll receive an alert and know to set off to pick them up promptly. You could even snooze while waiting. If it's a large event, our systems are more likely to get a mobile signal because they try continuously, whereas a mobile phone conversation requires the user to get a signal and go through the routine of making the call.
When your kids get old enough to drive and want to borrow the family car, or want money for a car of their own, part of the deal may be that they use a compact tracking device or mobile phone tracking when they go.
It might seem unlikely that a young adult would be happy to take a tracking device with them, but if it means they don't have to ring their mum to let them know where they are going and if they get more freedom as a result, it might easily be seen as socially acceptable, even desirable. Day to day operation
At home on your PC, you get to see where they are on an on-screen map .. in the playground, in a classroom. Maybe even in the head teacher's office.
If you set up a boundary around the school playground and the route to and from school, you'll get an alert if they leave the school. You will be able to see, for instance, if your daughter came straight home.
This is great, too, for school trips or when they are out with friends. It's even good when the rest of the family go out, you can tell where they've been, where they are and when they are making their way home. Tracking them on a ride at Alton Towers might be interesting!
Emergency operation
There are two main emergency situations:
- when the Zest : trak™ Lite wearer presses the alert button, and
- when the Zest : trak™ Lite exceeds a boundary.
In response, you can monitor the location of the GPS child tracking unit onscreen and perhaps direct someone on the ground, verbally, using a mobile phone.
If you need to be on the ground yourself or if you are panicked and can't work the software, our emergency operator is here to help. They can see the location of your child. Call them and they will talk you through the process. When you sign up, you'll receive a dedicated emergency phone number that's operational all day every day.
Zest : trak™ Lite must have a connection to the mobile network in order for any alert method to work. We currently use Orange to provide mobile services, their coverage map is here.
